Ask Your Congressional Representatives for Intersex Rights!
On April 1st, 2015, the intersex community celebrated long-awaited, landmark legislation banning nonconsensual surgeries on intersex infants and minors — known as Intersex Genital Mutilation (IGM)– in Malta! We are thrilled and grateful as the right to bodily integrity is what the intersex community has always advocated for, and we call on U.S. government officials to follow Malta’s lead. Intersex Americans, like the proverbial melting pot that is this nation, come from all ethnicities, races, religions, genders and orientations, and like other minority communities, we deserve equal rights and protections. But we but we need your help educating American politicians about us in order for human rights victories like Malta’s to happen here.
We urge you to contact your representatives about their intersex constituents and our need for equal rights. We have provided a sample letter in order to assist you; please personalize and/or include any pertinent information about yourself (professional credentials, affiliations, etceteras).
Thanks in advance for taking a stand for intersex people everywhere!
