Intersex Justice Project holds protest against CARES & infant surgeries in NYC

The CARES Foundation is a group run by and for parents of intersex children with one of the most common types of intersex, CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia), and their website’s tagline used to be, “Searching for the Cure.” They believe children with CAH are “really” women, and that their infant genitals should be medically carved and their bodies pumped with medically unnecessary hormones to make them look typically female.

It’s thus no surprise that CARES has spoken out against California’s SB 201, which seeks to ban medically unnecessary cosmetic surgeries, and we cannot thank our colleagues at the Intersex Justice Project enough for staging this protest at CARES’ fundraising gala event in NYC!
