Indya Moore Calls Out Lurie Children’s Hospital for Performing Surgeries on Intersex Babies!

As reported in PinkNews, Indya Moore, Angelica Ross and Gabrielle Union have lent their voices to a petition calling for an end to intersex surgeries at a Chicago children’s hospital. The petition, which calls for Lurie Childen’s Hospital to stop performing medically unnecessary surgeries on intersex infants and minors, was started by our colleagues at the Intersex Justice Project and we urge everyone to sign it.

On July 12th, Pose star Indya Moore, whom is non-binary and uses they./them pronouns, called out Lurie’s for using the images of LGBT actors, including Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, Legendary’s Jameela Jamil, and Pose’s Angelica Ross, to promote its solidarity with the LGBT+ community. As seen in their beautiful tweet below, Moore alerted their fellow trans (Shafer, Ross) and queer (Jamil) actors about Lurie’s hypocrisy, saying,
“Tell them You cannot stand w/trans people and step ON intersex people!”

Intersex activist Pidgeon Pagonis, whom is a co-founder, with Sean Saifa Wall, of The Intersex Justice Project, and friends with Moore, responded at length, as seen below.

In addition, Moore took to Instagram Live the same day. sharing a video urging people to listen and consider why medically unnecessary intersex surgeries must end and asking their followers to sign the petition. They also highlighted that intersex people are a part of the LGBTQIA community, saying:

“They’re claiming to be in solidarity with LGBTQIA folks and they are still performing genital mutilations on young intersex kids and they’re ignoring the pain they’ve caused intersex people. … They think that those of us that they’re platforming don’t care, but we do. Trans people care about intersex peoples’ bodies and lives. Queer people care about intersex peoples’ bodies and lives.”

Moore’s tweet led to Gabrielle Union and Angelica Ross also tweeting about the petition for Lurie’s to stop intersex surgeries, leading to the petition garnering thousands more votes in just 24 hours.

The intersex community has never experienced this level of celebrity support for our united cause of stopping the practice of preforming medically unnecessary surgeries on intersex babies and toddlers, and it has obviously made an impact. We thank Indya Moore, Angelica Ross, and Gabrielle Union DEEPLY for their support, and Pidgeon Pagonis (pictured below right) and Sean Safia Wall (below left) for bringing our cause to their attention! Amazing.
