S. African Beauty Queen Comes Out as Intersex!

Earlier this week, we celebrated South African Sharon Rose Khumalo’s victory–as the newly crowned Miss Mamelodi Sundowns–and her decision to compete as an openly intersex person, on Facebook.

We’re thrilled to see her spreading pride and awareness about being intersex, and that her coming out has been respectfully covered by the press this week. We’re even happier to hear her share that being out as intersex did not interfere with her competition but that, rather, she received support. Kudos to all the people she worked with and to Khumalo for modeling respect and acceptance!

“I had fears that someone somewhere might say this and this and then it turns into something nasty, The judges supported me.”
