Excellent Coverage in Buzzfeed of Zzyym’s Groundbreaking Lawsuit

“Foreign nationals who have the X marker on their passports are permitted to enter the U.S. and yet we’re denying the same rights to our own citizens,” said  Paul Castillo, the Lambda Legal staff attorney handling OII-USA Associate Director Dana Zzyym’s case. “When you are allowing foreign nationals more rights than you do your own citizens with respect to the same document, there has to be something wrong.”

Big thanks to Buzzfeed for their coverage, Paul Castillo for his excellent representation of Dana’s needs in this case, and everyone at Lambda Legal who is playing a role. OII-USA has always been dedicated to working for equal rights for all intersex people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ability, or class. We commend Dana for standing up to be counted as a non-binary intersex person, as those of us who do not identify as male or female —  but as both, neither, genderqueer, non-binary, or simply, intersex — have often been been marginalized within a binary world.

As Dana said, “This is something I believe every other intersex and non binary person has a right to do. I think everybody is born trying to make the world a better place and this is what I need to do.”

Please retweet and/or share the full Buzzfeed article to support Dana’s case for equality of people of ALL genders, and thanks in advance! :)
